The USC Summer Programs - The Brain: Introduction to Neuroscience offers high school students an immersive four-week experience into the fundamentals of neuroscience. Through a dynamic, multimedia-based curriculum, participants engage in college-level coursework, blending classroom learning with hands-on discovery. The program emphasizes developing essential lab and experimentation skills by investigating fascinating questions through the lens of the brain and applying foundational concepts in biology to real-world problems. Students will attend engaging daily lectures, explore USC research laboratories, and conduct collaborative hands-on laboratory experiments to develop resume-ready research and empirical analysis skills. The course culminates in a mock trial where students present and defend their findings, bringing together everything learned in a thrilling final challenge. Field trips to the California Science Center and opportunities for virtual and real nervous system/brain dissections are also included.
Participants attend class from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, with breaks for lunch or field trips in Los Angeles, and spend afternoons studying or engaging in recreational activities.
