Students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge AI tools and learn from UCLA's leading AI researchers and faculty in a world-class university setting.
The UCLA Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) offers a rigorous three-week pre-college program with a Generative AI track. This immersive, in-person experience at the UCLA campus is designed for high school students passionate about computer science and artificial intelligence. The curriculum introduces the foundations and modern techniques of Generative AI, adapted from existing UCLA CS courses like Machine Learning (CS146) and Natural Language Processing (CS162). Students will explore a wide range of generative AI tasks, including language generation, mathematical reasoning, and multimodal generation. The program covers foundational algorithms and methods such as neural networks, representation learning, and large language models. Through lectures, hands-on projects, and homework assignments, participants will learn the machine learning principles that enable generative systems to learn from large-scale data and produce coherent, structured outputs. The program culminates in a tutor-supervised capstone project, allowing students to apply learned techniques and gain practical skills in building and experimenting with generative models. Upon successful completion, students receive either an official certificate or course credit, depending on their chosen enrollment track.
A typical day involves morning lectures from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by group discussions and labs in the afternoon from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
This program is ideal for high school students (grades 10-12) with a keen interest in AI and some prior Python coding experience, along with a strong math background (AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB recommended).

Los Angeles STEM Summer Camps is a free directory service that aggregates publicly available information about STEM programs, summer camps, and educational opportunities. We do not operate, sponsor, endorse, accredit, certify, or have any affiliation with the camps and programs listed here unless explicitly stated.
All program details — including pricing, session dates, instructor credentials, curriculum, safety policies, refund terms, transportation, meal arrangements, and admission requirements — are sourced from publicly available information and may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. Listings are partially generated and updated using automated AI-assisted research, which can occasionally produce inaccurate details. Parents and guardians are solely responsible for independently verifying every detail directly with the camp before enrolling, paying, or relying on any information shown here.
We make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the accuracy, completeness, suitability, safety, quality, availability, or fitness for any particular purpose of any camp, program, or information shown on this site. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind — including but not limited to financial loss, missed sessions, refund disputes, injury, child safety incidents, transportation issues, dissatisfaction with educational outcomes, or any other harm — arising from your use of this directory or your decision to enroll a child in any listed program. Your use of this site constitutes acceptance of these terms.
