The program offers an immersive on-campus experience at a world-class research university, with courses designed and led by expert UCLA faculty and opportunities to work on a tutor-supervised capstone project.
The UCLA Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) offers a rigorous three-week pre-college program for high school students passionate about computer science, with a specialized track in AI & Generative AI. This immersive on-campus experience allows students to explore artificial intelligence and machine learning through interactive lectures and hands-on coding projects. Participants will work alongside UCLA faculty, PhD students, and trained undergraduate tutors, gaining expertise from leaders in the field. The curriculum includes coursework, homework assignments, and exams, culminating in a tutor-supervised capstone project where students apply learned techniques. Students can choose to enroll for either a Certificate of Completion or course credit, with the Generative AI track corresponding to UCLA Course Number COM SCI 97 Lec 2.
The Generative AI track focuses on neural networks, deep learning, and natural language processing. Students will engage with cutting-edge AI tools and learn from UCLA's leading AI researchers. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, collaborative learning, and critical thinking about the ethical implications of AI. Students will develop an original 'AI for Good' concept, strengthening their evaluation and design skills.
Students attend class from 9 AM to 12 PM for lectures and from 1 PM to 4 PM for small group discussion sections.
This program is ideal for high school students with a keen interest in AI and some prior coding experience, who are eager to explore university-level computer science in an immersive on-campus environment.
