About this camp

The UCLA Arts - Artificial Intelligence and Art Summer Institute is a three-week residential pre-college program for high school students interested in the intersection of AI and visual arts. Students will explore the possibilities and social impacts of making art with AI software, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge generative AI to develop their unique artistic style. The curriculum includes short lectures, discussions, workshops, and feedback sessions, with no prior programming or machine learning knowledge required. Participants will work on three exercises and a final project, culminating in an exhibition of portfolio-ready work that can be used for college applications. The institute aims to help students understand the future of digital creation and develop a critical perspective on technology's role in culture. Students earn 4 units of college credit upon successful completion.

What a typical day looks like

A typical day includes individual and group warm-up exercises, presentations on the history of AI in art, class discussions, 'how-to' tutorials, individual studio time with instructor and teaching assistant support, and group critiques.
