The Discover Engineering program at USC is a four-week, three-unit college course designed for high school students to explore various engineering disciplines. Participants engage in academic lectures, classroom discussions, and hands-on projects that involve designing, building, and testing. The curriculum emphasizes research using design thinking and the engineering design process. Students will gain practical experience through projects such as building and launching rockets, using 3D printers, programming robots and sensor devices, designing and building bridges, and utilizing AI. The program also includes field trips to relevant sites around Los Angeles to provide insight into the challenges and opportunities professional engineers face. Upon successful completion, students earn three units of USC elective college credit.
Participants attend class from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, with breaks for lunch or field trips in Los Angeles.
